Singapore Squad selected for Asian 7s 2012 in Pune

The Singapore Women’s 7s Team will be departing tomorrow for the Asian 7s 2012 to be held in Pune, India over the weekend. This year’s Asian 7s which will feature 16 teams also doubles as the Asian Qualifiers for the Rugby World Cup 7s 2013 to be held in Moscow.

Singapore’s squad features two changes from the team that travelled to Borneo 7s and Shanghai 7s with Ow Yong making her debut and Cramer who last played for Singapore in 2001. Both Ow Yong and Cramer were members of the Singapore team who won the bronze medal at the FIT World Cup Touch 2011 in Edinburgh.

Singapore face a current Asian no. 2 and Asian Games Champions Kazakhstan, Iran and United Arab Emirates in their pool. The republic will be looking to better their 7th place showing at last year’s Asian 7s. Fiji, which came in third after New Zealand and Australia in the Oceania 7s will also be participating to try and earn a spot for the Rugby World Cup 7s 2013.
